Remembrance Day / Los Algodones Day 2022

Today is our much anticipated return to Los Algodones.  We love border towns…

We have 4 objectives:  1) Hair cuts 2) Mani/Pedis  3) Check out dentists 4) Lunch

3 will be a daunting task as there are so many dentists.  This is the dental capital of the world with city has more than 400 dentists working in one square mile.  The procedure is they give you a “free” exam then give a quote for the service required.  I think it’s best for people who require a crown/bridge, etc who do not have dental coverage at home. We are just looking for a cleaning so that is likely about $50US (our portion at home is a little less) I regress, lets start at #1.   We both got chopped.  I’m feeling a little bit slighted as I’ve been Allan’s barber for the last 2ish years.

On to #2   When we first arrived this morning, the salon was not busy,  a mani/pedi was $15.  We wanted to have a margarita and cerveza while having it done as we did in Progresso, MX but liquor sales here do not begin until 11 so no booze for a while.

No problem let’s check out the sites and stuff you don’t need but will likely end up buying,  At 11 our time we try again, but no it’s only 10 local time, we did not realize they are on PST not MST.

Let’s go for the mani/pedi, the rate is now $15 for the pedi & $10 for a mani.  Gosh darn!  Allan does a search for another salon, finds one a 10m walk away.  Surely they will be cheaper.  Yes, I’m that cheap!   Where did the pavement go?   OK maybe not this cheap!  I would have turned back but Allan was on a mission!  Does this look like we’ll find a nail salon?

Picture 4 above, is a victorious Allan shouting “I found it!”

Back to town we go to pay the $25

3) dentists so, so many.  Think we will stick with the recommended Rubio

4) LUNCH Yahoo. So delicious!! Shrimp in garlic sauce for me, chicken fajitas for Allan

Not sure what this guy is selling but he’s doing it with a motorized bike

Now for the useless stuff we didn’t need but bought anyways.  The Coffee Tequila may have been necessary!  Bracelet started at $20, paid $5; not bad for gold 🙂  Cactus $45 paid $15.  Tequila 8.99, chips 1.89 no haggling for these.

  Cheers!   Yummy!!

Meet “Dannie” our dancing cactus!

Back for a hot tub, what will tomorrow bring?

A good “poop” day – November 10, 2022

Almost since the beginning of having Bailey, 4ish years. our holding tank sensors AFTER emptying the tanks read Grey 3/4 full, Black 1/2 full.  The toilet sensors did change to green but we normally had to “swizzle” (shoot water into the tanks, eventually they turn green)

We can last 3 days between dumps.  The last few dumps the sensors would turn red after 1-1/2ish days.  Time to seek outside assistance.  In comes “RV Flush”

Patrick explained the issue is the “poop” turns into struvite which is hard as rock.  He showed Allan a sample and banged it on his trailer.   Yep,  it’s  hard!

Patrick in action

Within 1/2h our tanks show as ….

We use Happy Camper Tank treatment.  Patrick says the product is good but use twice the amount they call for.  He however, recommends TankTech SRX Probiotic RV Tank Treatment  We’ll try it when we are out of HC

That done we’re off to check out Walley’s World, no not Walmart but Wally’s World full of great RV stuff

Next stop Big Bob’s Carpet to check out, well carpeting

Next delicious dinner, another poop. didn’t take a photo

Next local jam, more country than we like but still fun

  Hot tub time!

Good night!

November 09, 2022, A day I’m anxious to forget

9a:  In rolls Pirate Mobile RV, again.  Already have 5 hours (over 2 days) into this repair.

Will they figure it out today?

110p:  Did Travis faint cause even he can’t believe that at 110, 4+hours in (for a so far total of 9+)  they still can’t figure it out201p:  Is Russell praying to the “Mighty RV Repair Master?”

Cause now, not only are the old issues not resolved they managed to short the 12v line meaning we have no lights.

345p:  Lights back on!  They had to bypass a relay they blew up, their words.  Not sure how good that is for Bailey but we just want them gone, we missed an appointment and were stuck here all day.  Not having fun!  Did walk the park, several times, to get our steps and hoping these clowns would figure it out.

405p:  Miraculous, after jerking us around all day, the chairs swivel,

the awnings go out, we think.   Russell wanted to sell us a controller, we put that on hold. It’s  very windy today so don’t want to send the awnings all the way out, that may create another problem.

$1,728.98 please which includes a credit card swipe service fee of 2.78% which they didn’t tell us about when we asked what they accepted as payment and a 5h no charge discount.

Relieved the day is over and of course we’re re-hashing it all, but at least doing so in the hot tub!

Hope y’all had a more funner day!

November 08, 2022, Part 2: The Howling

Thanks to our friends, Doris and Kevin, we know about “Howling at the moon”                     A Yuma event that takes place during a full moon.  It’s a well attended event, not sure how all these people know about it.  We’ve not seen it advertised anywhere.  They do have a FB page that we only know about thanks to D&KDinner = Texas Twinkie (Texas Twinkies start as a hollowed-out jumbo jalapeño, stuffed with chopped brisket and cream cheese then wrapped in bacon)

Live entertainment was, entertaining 🙂

Up close & personalGot us some new garb!

Getting darker

We were amazed at how quickly the moon rose!  Let the howling begin click here  IMG_7883

And it’s up!!

Such a fun, different night

Back to the hot tub and the moon is totally high 🙂

November 08, 2022, Part 1 – Bath Day :)

DADs was supposed to be here at 1130, we head out to Albertson to put up some stuff.  Get back at 1030 and they were already here waiting.

Three guys, estimate clean time about an hour.  Off we walk and get many of today’s step.  Pop by to see them working hard

Showing Bob some love now

They did an amazing job, all bugs gone!  They are beauties again

This is the before & after windshield, we are thrilled with the results!

Another bad/good day: November 07, 2022

The not so good: The mobile guys came back = another 2-1/2h total 5h into this repair and our awnings and captain chairs are still not working. They spend time in their vehicle, see them on their cell, say they are waiting for Winnebago to offer more assistance.   Will they even try to come back?????
The good: We found a spot for the next 3 months! A great rate for newcomers 🙂  We don’t usually luck out we did with Sun Vista RV Resort   So much to do here if you wish to!  And we are permitted to grill on Joey again 🙂
Back at Bailey, it is remove and clean the window screens.  We are pretty proud of the job we did 🙂
DAD (Dave’s Auto Detailing) is coming tomorrow for the exterior of both Bailey and Bob.  Finally, hopefully getting rid of all the bugs!
Allan outdid himself making dinner, chicken parmesan with tomato sauce for me NAKED for him!  He loves naked!!

Next up, of course the hot tub!!

November 04, 05, 2022 One day more fun than the other

Nov 04th – Exciting day, we have mobile RV service guys coming to repair our awnings that won’t go out, and our captain chairs that won’t swivel,

Pirate RV is scheduled to arrive between 10&11. They arrive at 1015, great start! Love the little flag on their antenna. Look at the top left corner, the arrows show the spot

There are 2 guys, both electricians before moving to Arizona from Washington to start their mobile RV business.

After 2-1/2h they admitted defeat and put the wiring back. Not sure how anyone knows what to do with all these wires!

These were also the most honest techs, he said he’s not charging us as he couldn’t fix it. Wow. They said they’d go back, do research and reach out to other techs they know. They would call us back! We do not expect to hear from them again.

It’s too hot to sit in the sun without awnings, we want them repaired. What’s our next plan???

Next up, we are checking out the 2 casinos as we thought it would be fun to “boondock” there for 2 nights. Paradise Casino, not only are the roads in bumpy but the area to park the RV is so unlevel. These 2 were the only ones here.

Off to Quechan, this one was worse. We’re just not cut out to “boondock”

Should have stayed in bed today!

Nov 05th: Today is Donny’s birthday! We have a lunch date to celebrate with Don, Debbie, and their friends, Brent & Diana.

Downtown Historic Yuma

Fun time, lots of laughs!

He just can not behave!

Off to the hot tub!

First full day in Yuma, November 03, 2022

Sorry Yuma! 🙁    We seem to bring un-seasonal weather where ever we go. The normal…  “The windier part of the year lasts for 6.1 months, from December 17 to June 21, with average wind speeds of more than 7.1 miles per hour.”

Note:  All today’s photos are clickable to make them larger in a new window.  PM me which format you enjoy more.

Today’s wind gusts up to 31 mph,  non-gusts 19mph.   Crazy winds, blowing dust.

Today’s non-reward adventure is to Arizona Market Place

They opened today for the season, closing sometime in April.  Some great deals, some things that are overpriced deals

Live entertainment.  Allan is happy they have an Amber on draft.  The poutine was delicious with a different type of cheese curd.

This is a great idea!  I just didn’t know what box we have, they have many different wine box shapes here

Allan is happy with his current on board selection of ambers.

Dinner then hot tub time!  A happy evening to all!!

Move to Yuma Day, Western Sands Resort, November 02, 2022

It was a nice, Allan deemed, “stress free drive”, even with the obligatory wait, wait, wait for the pilot vehicle to take our side down the single lane due to construction 🙂

We are driving through Quartzsite. Lots of folks boondock here but it’s famous as the “Rock Capitol of the World.” An ideal destination for rock-hounds and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Trade, buy, or simply view minerals from all over the world, Quartzsite is a perfect winter destination as the year-round warm weather, monuments, and hiking spots brings together many attractions that Arizona is famous for—even if you’re not into rocks. What’s that in Allan’s hand??

Yuma! The hot season lasts for 3.7 months, from June 1 to September 23, with an average daily high temperature above 99°F. The hottest month of the year in Yuma is July, with an average high of 107°F and low of 83°F.

The cool season lasts for 3.0 months, from November 21 to February 21, with an average daily high temperature below 76°F. The coldest month of the year in Yuma is December, with an average low of 49°F and high of 69°F

Here we are!

Whoops, did a big mistake!!  Yuma by-law does not allow charcoal grills!!  Having been owners for almost a lifetime we continually forget to check the rules.  This may have taught us. Thankfully we broke down and bought a 5qt air fryer from the Target in Yakima. We just couldn’t resist as on line it was $40, while instore $140. What a deal!

Tonight’s dinner! Delicious

Dinner done it’s hot tub time!

Allan rocking his new hat 🙂

Today’s walking tour as orchestrated by my favourite tour guide

We were here the other day but did the “here and there” tour, today’s tour guide Allan will be organized…

As per point 4 above the fountain has nothing to do with the bridge!

There are 52 steps! 🙂

No photo as we couldn’t spot it. Tour guide let us down on this one.

TOUR NOW ENDED! Hope it was enjoyed by all!

Some scenic photos around the lake

Lake Havasu City

Our last hot tub in this glorious tub!

If I would have checked my steps yesterday I would have continued on to 20k and get a badge
