Lethbridge to Medicine Hat, 1h40m what can go wrong?
The train, the train!
What the heck are these tents? We’ve passed several fields with them. A friend suggested it may be to prevent cows from hitting the gaslines. Good guess?
Driving a little car passes us.. BANG… yet another crack on our less than 3 week old, brand new windshield. We went 3ish years without an incident now 2 within 3 weeks. GRRRR
Made it with no more incidents
Learning at Wilf & Brenda’s yesterday, tonight’s bacon wrapped sausage will be cooked on the campfire 🙂
We arrived on Saturday, June 11th at our first working farm. Very nice day, as is Sunday when our friends, Wilf & Brenda are coming for dinner. Sunshine warmth galore. Sunset
Sunset through our dirty window
The farm has sheep, lots of sheep who we quickly learn love to talk at night, 4 cows, see only one photo on the previous post, 2 alpacas and 1 donkey also on previous post.
No names are supplied so we named the alpacas are Salt & Pepper. They aren’t beautiful but cute. Think they need to be brushed.
And sheep to keep straight, so no names for these critters. Ba, ba….
Then the down pour for 3 straight days. This video does not give it justice
Still had a good week ending up with a BBQ at Wilf and Brenda’s RV park on Friday night. Hum, looks like it may rain, up go the tent. This isn’t just working, turns out it is inside out..
.. Whoops, lets try again
Got it done, before the rain started, with many, many laughs
We are much old for this to be our first, but our first it is. Cooking real food on a fire pit (not just s’mores)
Bracing for the longest drive we’ve had in awhile, 4-1/2 h.
We plan to leave 9ish. All’s good and on schedule until…. Allan attempts to retract the slides, neither side want to move which is a first. The repair place said we just have to have more patience. OK give it time and try again, not moving. Allan used the reset and the kitchen slide comes in. Not so much for the big slide. More patience and it finally retracts.
Yep. for some crazy reason we are still loving, OK not loving but working through all the issues we encounter.
A cloudy start, back in the wildlife corridor
Sunshine then rain
We fly by Fernie. They have a brewery here, no we didn’t stop
We’ve encountered lots of interesting stuff. Add this to the list, “The World’s Largest Tandem Axle Truck“Wildlife Detection Zone. Click here to see it in action. Our first ever, first photo no detection, 2nd detection
No, we didn’t see any critters on the road or on the sides. We did on this leg, see deer, mountain goat, a fox.
Mountains, rivers, BC’s finest
Hello Alberta!!
We’re elevated!
Alberta’s fuel cost are a little more realistic Back in wind combine territory. They get some wicked winds
We are here, arriving at 2
Bailey waiting to be checked in
Our site, #16 of 16 sites
The farm has many sheep, two alpacas, three cows, one miniature donkey AND
Goodbye Creston, BC. My least favourite town/city so far, Allan agrees.
Why?? Not really sure cause they have a cute downtown. Our park, Arrow Mountain RV Park, was the most “no frills” park we ever stayed at, with certainly not “no frills” rates. Feel a little duped. Didn’t help that I got my first 2 ever, in my life, ticks! I get that is not Creston’s fault but still….
These photos make it look nicer than it really is..
Our walk to town
The plus! Best pizza Allan has ever had, and he’s had many, many, many pizzas . Zesty Mexican for the absolute win
Fuel, 1/2 a tank over $400 – crazy and this per litre price was not that bad
It’s a beautiful scenic drive to Fairmont Hot Springs but how many photos of snow capped mountains, no snow mountains, creeks, lakes but how many photos of these beauties can one post?
Oh great, not only is there at least one bear with her two cubs in the park. The check-in lady warned of a heavy tick presence because of the cooler temperatures.
Our site #237
Bailey being bashful! As spotted on our walk
We love our hikes but I’m passing. Bears do scare me but we are armed, ticks scare me more right now and they can carry Lyme Disease.
Aren’t we cute!! Not planned but look at how we both positioned our hands 🙂
Next up, we meet Rocky!
Mountain skies, very fast changing
Mini waterfall on the grounds
Back in the hot springs… we go at least 2 times a day. Hot springs facts
Our after dinner visitor
Wait! Don’t go, let’s have another bevvy!
June 09th – Anyone who follows us knows we do not do UPS! Yet today, after breakfast, a hot springs visit which included a Spanish Coffee off we head down the mountain. NUTS, for sure!!
First we spot this historical site, bath house
After all these years this guy still makes me smile & laughMake it down the mountain, back to Highway 93. Now to find a pub for a well deserved beer and wine!
About a block down the highway we find Farside Inn. It opens at 12, we arrive at 1230. We are parched from the walk down and are dreading the walk back up. Enter the Inn, sign says “wait to be seated” We wait the bar tender/owner says, sit where ever you want. We’ll sit at the outdoor patio. “No not opened”. Ok we find an indoor seat. Time to order, what will I order? You got it.
“What do you have for red wine?” None just sold out. OK, not happy but order whatever they have for white wine. Allan spotted Alexander Keith’s Red on tap and we are parched. Allan orders it “No, sold out as well”
Strike 3, we are out!! Walk back up wasn’t as bad as we thought but we did take 2 breaks. Where the heck are the “rewards” when you need them!!
Back we head to the hot springs. Our muscles are more than happy with us!!
Finally we see a bear at the side of the road. This isn’t him but the closest photo I could find of what he looked like. He, maybe She just couldn’t tell Wish I had the actual photo.
Arrow Mountain RV Park. Maybe more of a parking lot? 24 SPACIOUS sites, I think not!
Photo makes the spot look nicer than it is
We take a drive to a mini mall, park there and walk to town. Sights along the way
June 1 – We hate ups, guess we love torture cause here we go…
Bailey is looking small
Even smaller, do you spot them? Soon it will be hard to breathe at this altitude
Poop, poop, and more poop. We are on the lookout for animals
Spot the animal! It’s a deer who may have a baby with her
We started this walk with over 7k in steps so we will not make the top of the mountain today. Much deserved rewards. Do you spot Bailey and Bob? All spots revealed at the end of this post
We would have had to walk this much more to reach the top; nope we’re pooped!
We deserve this treat after our hike! This is the oldest pub in BC, founded 1895. Seems they have had some issues….Click here
What commands such a smile? Rickard’s Red on draught!
One too many??
We’ve had many interesting neighbours, this one included from Orangeville. He overheated at the park’s entrance so Markus invited him to spend the night.
Because of the wild fires, there are no individual fire pits, but there is a communal pit. Shared a fire with park owners Markus, his wife, the camp hosts and our Ontario fun guy,
June 02 – 2nd attempt to reach the top
This is where we made it to yesterday, off we go. We will make it to the top
What are those “ant” looking dots? Cows!
Poop, lots of poop reference today…. But poop, we are hearing thunder which is accompanied by lighting and we’re up here. Think it’s time to admit defeat and just be safe. Down we go
This is how much further it would have been to the top, Next time we are here we will make it there!
May 16th – Day trip to Vernon, would not be complete without visiting Scattered Goods and having lunch at The Kal. Rickard’s Red on draft = Happy Allan
Ducks, ducks, ducks = poop, poop, poop! Bailey is quite a mess, Bob we do take to a car wash.
May 18th, reward by Wood Lake
May 20th – a quick trip to Alberta to attend a dear friend’s Father’s “Celebration of Life”. He passed peacefully, on the 13th.
Prices cheaper here, 173.9
Beautiful sunset
Back in Calgary to see the sites. Neither of us have ever been.
Delicious Mexican dinner, OK fries a little weird but the food was the best Mexican we’ve had in quite a while.
May 23rd – Back at the airport for our 9am flight, 55 minute flight. Happy to see our plane waiting for us. Note the plane on the left. We’re scheduled to leave at 9am board at 840. At 840 they announce flight is delayed to 10. We walk some more now have over 10k steps. Head back to find were delayed to 1045. More walking and settle by the fire.
Head back again, yahoo they are boarding us. Later but still we’re on the plane. Then the announcement “This is your captain, good news is I made it here bad news we have a technical problem.”
Fast forward we move to the plane on the left. Finally in the air at 1235. Bye bye Calgary
And hello poopy, Bailey
May 25 – Replace Bailey’s windshield day. Drop her off and head to Vernon to pass the day. Some cute signs. “Funny Noises”
We got “ducked” in Vernon. First time – sure makes you smile
Bailey’s new windshield
Friends, Elaine & Rob brought their RV for the weekend. Fun dice & card playing
May 29th – Indy 500 Day! May the best driver (that’s mine) WIN
Josef did not let me down!
We get a chuckle every time we walk by this truck. They are from Ontario
May 30th – Last full day in Wood Lake. Bailey gets a much need bath. We are hopeful the birds skip over us.
Last fire, weather permitting we’ve had one every night. We will miss this as many spots do not allow fires. Wild fires and all that.
Early morning visitors, please do not poop on Bailey
We are heading to Bridesville today but first a drotp off of Bailey at Enterprise to see about the aqua hot system. This is what heats our water including the shower. Showers are quicker nowadays. The water temperature doesn’t hold so it’s a game to keep turning the shower dial to keep it tolerable. I have no faith they will find anything, having not found it before. Let’s kill the day and head to Vernon, we visited a few of our favourite stores and were heading to The Kal when Allan got the call what Bailey was ready. Seems it is what it is, at least we know how to work the dial!!
We bail on The Kal and head to Costco, was in the plans just quicker than expected. The parking lot is nuts but we are determined. Park, head in only to find out their Internet is sporadically down. We thought we’d brave it till we saw the line ups, backed up to the back of the store. Not for us!
Pick up Bailey, hook Bob up, get fuel and we are on the road again…
Gotta love BC roads
We know we are on the right route, Construction!
This is one of many areas affected by the wild fire in 2021
Maps doesn’t usually let us down. Not this time 🙁 GPS is saying 1.1km to go as we sail by the campground. Whoops, it’s almost impossible to do a U-turn and we can’t back up with Bob hooked up.
Allan finds a turn around on a neighbouring property. It’s tight but we make it! We learn the sign that would have helped blew down in heavy winds 2 weeks ago. Rain and snow prevented the re-installation. We are here… Home till Friday
This park is new and has struggled, Covid, fire bans. If you are in the area, stop in, great owners and nice sites. So many plans for the future. Summit Mountain Resort This is site 10 & 11.
Today’s walking destination, it’s a 15minute walk from Wood Lake to this sign
They added this board since the last time we were here. This makes me LOL, note the legs
Made it! It’s that time, “REWARD”
This is us! Falls behind us
Back at Bailey it’s fire time
Bailey from a different angle. I do love it here especially as the park is very quiet, at least for now. There are tons of ducks who frolic in this creek but we are not to get a photo, yet!
Allan beat me in steps of the day (for a change), he finished over 18,000 to my 17,000. Big stepping day!!
This place has the latest check in we’ve encountered 3pm. They are adamant about it blaming staffing issues. Fortunately, Enterprise said it was OK to stay there, we used the time to go to Costco. Not happy that Costco stopped “old folks” hour but here we are.
The upwards view
I love it here, it is so peaceful. We have friends joining us here, it will be a blast!
